I am going to describe 7 important things to consider before launching your website!

However, visitors who leave your site come and go without a trace, so how do you know what they wanted? How do you know what would have persuaded them to take action?

There could be several different types of requirements and priorities for a project. But there are some that need to be planned for each website. Following are 7 steps that one should know before starting a webiste.

1. Plan it

Of Course, planning is the first thing one should do. But what should be planned is an important consideration.

Indeed, Planning is an essential part of every business and organization. However, In practice, many businesses fail to during the first utmost part for the right approach. It has been seen commonly that people play blame games within the organization by making excuses for not getting proper time for projects. But it mainly happens because people fail to identify that planning for the web is just as important as an application itself.

How to start planning?

First, understand what the requirements are. Following are some of the basic requirements for a high-level business.

  • Business Requirements– Define the objectives of the organization. Discuss the problems need to be solved to achieve success.
  • User Requirements– Define user expectations with the product or services. Discuss how to make it easy for users to interact with the product and services.   Your planning must include the set of tasks your users may complete when to enter your site. Use the design, features, and content in order to meet the user requirements.
  • Functional Requirements– Discuss and define how to design a product and service so it functions exactly how a user have indeed.
  • Quality-of-Service Requirements – Details how a product or service should be maintained in order to keep its effectiveness.
  • Implementation Requirements– Details how to implement a plan, who will implement, who will communicate the different team roles etc. Website requirements only tell you what need to be done in order to be a successful business. It does not tell you how to implement the idea and plan to the site to have those features, functions, and content.

2. Deciding website name and domain

If you are an established business then you might not be thinking anything else than your brand name for the domain. However, if you just a start up then following suggestions will definitely help you to choose a right domain for your business.

  • Does it sound like a brand? Is it unique and easy to remember? Don’t go for niche keyword thing. It doesn’t work anymore. I know it is a traditional approach.
  • Make sure it is easily pronounceable. It must be easy to guess how to say it.
  • Make it as short as possible. A lesser number of words is easy to share, write, remember, share and type.
  • Choose .com as the extension for your website. It is still most renowned extension. If not available choose .net and .co
  • Avoid using domain names that violate or confuse with active trademarks. They could sue u or can take over completely.

3. Create a demo layout and navigation for your website

What if you don’t create a demo layout before creating your website?

  • The designers or developers usually assume what would be best, which may or may not match your requirements, ultimately causing confusion and dissatisfaction.
  • The uncertainty over demands, moving back and forth in the communication can multiply the work load and may frustrate.
  • Changing design and the code over and over again may cause the delay in the deadlines.
  • Above can lead to adding on extra work which may overrun the original budget of the project.

4. Do keyword research

Keyword research is first and foremost step if you want to notch search engine rankings. Keywords can be used in order to optimize your website content for search engines. For those of you who know the importance of writing your copy for SEO, don’t become too focused on injecting your key search terms so many times that the content becomes unreadable. By naturally including your terms throughout the copy on the site, you ensure that once someone gets there, you don’t sound like a robot.

There are several keywords tools but you can use a manual approach anytime. Google instant search feature is one such option to collect keyword ideas for your business.

I personally think that Google instant gives SEO specialists a better understanding of how important it is to be in the top ranks of search results. Since Google instant doesn’t affect rankings, it doesn’t pose any threat to change SEO methods and practices. But I think it is also safe to say that it will revolutionize the search game by creating an immediate awareness to businesses regarding just how powerful search has become in marketing out your company.

5. Content is important for your website

Content strategy is the way you plan to distribute content on your website. For example, you may want to publish two blog posts a month, once a week or put a report monthly or quarterly for your subscribers. Since content is one of the 3 important aspects to be a successful website, consider hiring experts. Hire a writer who is experienced with the niche, the web, and SEO background.

Unless you are creating a cheap, uninteresting, or not much technical website, your content should be more than a just plain text. Make your content interesting by adding one of the following multimedia elements, you’ll greatly enhance the appeal and usefulness of the website:

  • Images
  • Documents (usually PDFs)
  • Audio or podcasts
  • Video (preferably embedded from YouTube or other video hosting platforms)
  • Adobe Flash files;
  • Content feeds (from other websites, for example)
  • Relevant industry tweets
  • RSS feeds

If you can write reasonably well but need some guidance, consider hiring an editor to polish your output.

6. If you build it; they won’t necessarily come

After building your website; it is just the half work done. Just having a website won’t fulfill your goals. Google is not going to rank you on Google just because you sell the related products and services in the search terms.  SEO comes into play here.

SEO is first and ultimately the last option for website owners who want to make their website visible. SEO is very important for your business unless you have thousands and millions to spend on paid advertisement methods.
